After a very sly tease from Officer [AP]Dirty Harry back on Jan 19th, the lingering mystery of "what's coming" was finally answered today by none other than the mighty...

The name alone can be tied to one thing, and one thing only: Amateurs' Practice - NOVICES ONLY!!(2)... yes, that's AP2! Accordingly, in a most unexpected, yet familiar fashion, Crim announced the (temporary) return of AP2 for ONE DAY ONLY -- Saturday, January 31 @ 11:59 PM EST until Sunday, February 1st @ 11:59 PM EST (just before midnight).
Because of this extremely punctuated time-frame, enthusiasts old and new are encouraged to budget their time wisely on Sunday. A compromise between football and Half-Life will be essential if you wish to savor this once-every-five-year opportunity! Tentative plans are to have a "No Holds Barred" Crowbar Match in AP2 at 10:00 PM EST on Sunday. Don't miss it!

Long long ago, lost in the ancient mists of time, there were two servers called:
Amateurs' Practice - NOVICES ONLY!! (1) , and:
Amateurs' Practice - NOVICES ONLY!! (2)
They were run on a private Linux box by a man who called himself "Soupy" until such time as he could run them no more. Desperate to keep at least one of these servers alive, a man with a less-delicious but much more Monty-sounding name replicated the second and busier of the two servers right down to the last capacitor in the frozen land of Nador. And there was much rejoicing.
A year passed. Winter changed into Spring. Spring changed into Summer. Summer changed back into Winter, and Winter gave Spring and Summer a miss and went straight on into Autumn. Until one day... The legendary Black Beast of Aaaaarrrrrrggghhh came and slew the Crimson Permanent Assurance and all his minstrals. AP2 was no more.
Well, it was bound to not happen. And yet it didn't. Amateurs' Practice - NOVICES ONLY!! (2) will return for ONE DAY only in the first (and last) Great AP2 Groundhog Day Massacre (pronounced massa-CREE'). This will take place - as one would hope - on Groundhog Day, February 1st, 2009. It is widely rumored that there is a football game of some kind that same day - this has neither been confirmed nor denied.

Be aware: AP2 is NOT AP3. They are similar, and yet very different. AP2 runs an older version of Bubblemod. AP2 has configurations that are meant to be "beginner friendly". These configurations rotate every hour. "Weapon stay" is ON. The server is just as it was the day it was finally turned off. It is definitely an acquired taste.
There will be some people there that we haven't seen in a very long time. I hope you all will be there too!
